Why we should not apply Ac supply to Cable when during the cable Hi pot test ?

AC supply should not be applied to cables during a hi-pot test because the high voltage AC waveform can cause dielectric breakdown in the insulation, leading to a fault or failure of the cable. DC voltage is safer and more suitable for performing this type of test.
