Some operating system have a tree structured file system but
limits the depth of the tree to some small number of levels.

It means they cannot copy files or folders that are beyond that total length. Either with too many really long names makes backing them up difficult.
Usually have to correct it at some point by using abbreviation or moving them up a folder or two.
