As column is compression member then why we use steel to make it reinforced as it is already capable of taking compressive load?

But concrete can't withstand tensile load. That is the reason why steel is provided in concrete to take up tension load as it is good in tensile strength. And both concrete and steel have the same coefficient of thermal expansion.
