When a load is attached to a DC generator, it draws current and therefore current starts flowing in the armature winding. This current flow will produce distortion. This is called armature reaction. Now Armature reaction causes Neutral Plane Shift.
The magnetic neutral plane is defined as the plane with in the machine where the velocity of rotor wires is exactly parallel to the magnetic flux lines, so that e(ind) in the conductors in that plane is exactly zero.
