mechanical efficiency is high in petrol engines compared to diesel engines but why diesel engines are preferred in heavy duty vehicles
Answer Posted / ansari
Compression efficiency of diesel engine is more than petrol engine b/c in diesel engine air is compressed first then fuel is injected and air can be compressed without combustion where as in case of petrol engine air fuel mix is compressed together and hence higher compression is not possible. Diesel engine run on 4 stroke and petrol on 2 stroke. Diesel engine are heavier as more heat is produced and normally water cooled. Petrol engine are normally air cooled. and a lot more to discuss.
