That is very simple first year the generator it's mixed for 2 main parts
1. Mechanical this is ENGINE
2. Electrical this is Alternator
When the piston function at the same time work the alternator bcz some shaft connect between the engine and alternator .
That's is crank shaft ,when the shaft rotate between the winding (Alternator) automatically produce the magnetic fulx that's mean power
You must learn first Engine and also alternator
Then will you find that function
