What is meant by Characteristic Strength of concrete/concretemix and how is it related to the 28 day cube strength. Are these defined in either or both B ritish Standards or Eurocodes?

Characteristic strength is the strength below which only 5% of test carried out on given identical cubes are expected to fail.
Where as 28day strenght is the mean strength of all the tests acarried out on a given set of samples.
So they both are different things.
