when a fluid is flowing in a pipe at a point pressure of fluid equal to or fall below to the vapour pressure than boiling start and vapour bubbles formed in the pipe.when bubbles moves in high pressure bubbles collapse and high pressure force genrated and pitting action take place on metallic surface.due to this pitting force cavities are formed on the surface and this phenomina called cavitation.
