if there is self ignition in petro engines then why is the need of spark plug in petrol engine ???

mainely reason low of the compression ratio of si engine and need to spark plug produse to spark but ci engine high compression ratio due to high ratio tem.and pressure increase and flame easily produce but si engine need to spark pluge....
