WHY WE USE CABLE JUNCTION AFTER BETWEEN TANSMISSION LINE
AND TRANSFORMER
Answer Posted / pritish
junction cable is placed in between the trans. and a sub station due to the following reasons.
when a high voltage surge fall on the transmission line it propagates to the either side of the tr. line. we know that the surge impedance of a transmission line is nearly 400 ohm and the surge impedance of a cable is 40 ohms. hence when a surge comes to the sub station from tr. line, the magnitude of surge voltage decreases to a great extent on the cable side due to voltage divider rule. hence the equipments in the SS can be protected.
