what is the CT of protection and CT of metering ? what is
class 5P10 & 5P20 and class PS ?
Answer Posted / anonymous
CT of protection(PS 5P10 5P20) type is designed for low accuracy and high saturation bcoz at the time of fault curretn is very high. Gives input to relays.
CT of meter(0.1 0.5 1) type is designed for high accuracy and lower saturation. Gives input to ammeters.....
Eg: CT specs 10VA 5P10
This means it has a ratio error of 5% at 10 times rated current I if the real load consumes 10 VA at I.
CT specs 10VA 5P20
Ratio error 5% at 20 times I
Both are same as it gives same ratio error; selection however differs as 5P20 has higher saturation limit
