what will be the effect if we increase the excitation of a
alternator??
Answer Posted / raul
If the excitation of an alternator is increased, then the
excitation voltage will increase, more flux in the air gap,
more rotor heating. But the excitation increase is governed
by the ROTOR HEATING LIMIT as per the generator capability
curve which over-rides the STATOR HEATING LIMIT. Above the
RHL, the automatic voltage regulator (AVR) takes over
control and starts reducing the excitation by Rotor current
limiter which acts in conjunction with the AVR.
