what is the difference b/w earthing and grounding??

Earthing is done to protect the operator from any leakage / fault potential appearing on the body of the machine.
Where as Grounding of equipment are done mainly to prevent it from building static charges which other wise may lead to unsafe situations particularly when machine are connected to vessels handles explosive materials.
