what is the difference b/w earthing and grounding??

when a fault occurs in domestic homes ,earthing is used to
provide a path for passing of fault current,it prevents
human being from electric shock.
but on the otherhand grounding is the phenomenon that
states that metallic part of every equipment is connected
to earth.this is called grounding.it is usd to prevent the
equipment from heating damage.

In hydel power plants, L.A's, S.C's are placed inside the control panel boards. what is the purpose? [already the total body was earthed to ground.]
