if field winding of synchronous generator are shorted on each other will it start or burn or run for short time like induction motor

the synchronous generator's (rotor) which is field winding,
it will produce a field for small amount of time but after
some time, due shorted the excessive amount of current
produce the heat that will cause the generator rotor to burn
out.
