Fouling factors provide a numerical value, reflecting the resistance to moving heat between fluid mediums. Typically, heat exchanger designers compensate for high fouling factors by increasing the exchanger's surface area. Although fouling will still occur, there is more surface area for functional heat exchanges, continuing adequate operations
