The word "strain" means "extraction/contraction".
For "strain gauge" we have a fine layer of strain material which is proposed to the pressure by "diaphragm" or "fill fluid media", then it contracts/extracts according to pressure variation.
By contraction/extraction the resistance of the strain piece changes as R=(SPECIFIC DENSITY*LENGTH)/AREA, So this R varioation is taken through whetistone brigde and voltage /ampere variation.
For the strain piece all changes are in microscopic scales.
Example of the strain material is "silicon".
