A software requirement is something the customer wants the
software to do
because it would be useful. For example, a software
requirement might be
that the application run on Windows 2000 and Linux SuSE
Desktop 9.1. This
is a requirement because some of the employees in the
company use Windows
2000 and others use Linux SuSE Desktop 9.1.
A business requirement is something the company's policies
or procedures
require. For example, if the company is ISO 9001:2000
certified and they
have documented that log files from application servers must
be retained
for 5 years, it might be a business requirement that the
software archive
log files and that any log files over 5 years old my be
discarded.
