Why are the HV motors are connected in star connection?
Answer Posted / jayakumar
In Star connected HT Motors , stator applied phase voltage
reduced by root 3 times so Current would be reduced
equivalent to this as well as stator Line current is equal
to phase current.
In Delta connected winding full line voltage(equal to phase
voltage) is applied on each phase so stator current would
be higher (root 3 times more than star connections).
The size of cable HT considerably reduced while on star with
delta connected motors. For star connection, the star point
easily brought out outside and make the connection by 3 nos.
HT bushings only for Delta 6 nos terminal bushings to be used.
