What is LDAP?

Answer Posted / john burgess

LDAP stands for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol. For
example, a user wants to use a Database Server or a Web
Server. The Database Server or Web Server will then sent a
request to the LDAP Server to see whether the user has the
legal right to access the Database Server or the Web Server.
The LDAP will then access its own database and its directory
services to see whether the user has a right to access the
Database Server or the Web Server. It will then tell the
Database Server and the Web Server. The Databasr Server or
Web Server will then decide whether to allow the user in or
cut him off.
