WHY THE FREQUENCY IS 50 HZ IN INDIA.CAN WE USE SOME OTHER
FREQUENCY.IF SO WHAT IS THE RANGE AND WHAT WILL BE THE
EFFECT IN PRESENT POWER SYSTEM IF WE CHANGE THE FREQUENCY
AS YOU SUGGEST ?
Answer Posted / uk
there are many reason behind the use of 5o hz ...
1. in india all power plant set on the basis of given formula.
F = (P * N) / 120
where F = Frequency (in Hz)
P = the number of poles of the generator rotor
N = Speed of generator rotor (in RPM)
F*120=p*N should be equal to 6000.
if the we change the frequency the we have to change the 6000 factor which is uneconomical
2. core is combination of hysteresis loss and eddy current loss
hysteresis loss is directly proportional to the frequency and the eddy loss is directly proportional to square of the frequency. therefore as we increase the frequencies these loss also increase...
3. skin effect is depend on the frequency as we increase the frequency the skin effect is increases in the transmission line and the line become more resistive and copper loss is increase..
4. the using of ferromagnetic substance works efficiently on the frequency in between 44 hz to 70hz and the we go beyond the 70hz the life of the substance is decreases....
