A VT is a voltage transformer used for measurement &
protection purpose. It is small in capacity as compared to
power transformer. VT & CT are generally classified as
instrument transformers. A CVT is a Capacitor oltage
transformer which is associated with a stack of capacitor
voltage divider. As an example, if there are 2 stacks of
55KV capacitors in a CVT(connnected between one phase &
ground), the actual VT primary winding is connected across
the lower 55KV stack (lower stack to ground). By this, you
save the cost of primary winding & insulation. While a VT
has higher accuracy, CVT has less accuracy and high phase
angle error. CVTs are use for voltage measurement &
synchroniser supply and not for power relays & power
measurement where accuracy is important.

HELLO EVERYONE, I RECENTLY HAVE FOUND ONE PROBLEM, I WAS TAKING NO LOAD TRIAL OF AN HT MOTOR 920 MOTOR , 1440 RPM , 6.6 KV, WITH AUTO TRANSFORMER. AT 450 V, LOAD WAS 40 AMP AND SPEED WAS 250 RPM. BUT AS WE INCREASE VOLTAGE FROM 450 TO 480V, LOAD BECOME 41 AND SPEED REDUCED TO SOME RPM . SO WHICH PHENOMENON ACTED HERE FOR REDUCING SPEED.?? AND IS IT HAPPENING ALWAYS OR IT IS RARE? I ALSO HAVE FACED SUCH PROBLEM WITH FEW LT MOTOR ALSO.
