it is also called as thryistor.
it can be used as a switch.
scr is to control the speed of motor and work as a switch for
large amount of power rating.As by name it is clear that it
is a rectifier device but
in SCR we can rectifier the voltage at desired phase angle
by means of the grid so in havey rectifiers the metallic
scr are used ,SCR are also used in invertors,motor speed
control,etc
