why transformer ratings in kva?
Answer Posted / er.kulwinder singh
the iron losses of the transforfomer are occuring even at no
load which depends upon tje operating voltage.Cu losses
comes into play when transfomer is loaded(even though at no
load these also occur but are negligible as compared to iron
losses),Cu losses depends upon load current. As power factor
of the load is not included, that's why this is rated in kva
not in kw

Is a contactor (or master relay) required between incoming lines and a VFD? The question goes to safety. If a contactor were used before the VFD and an e-stop engaged then the motor will coast to a stop (i.e. VFD loses power) instead of stopping much faster if the VFD braking fucntion were used. It would make more sense to keep power on the VFD.
