What will happen if apply dc source for power transformer
Answer Posted / natha
if dc is applied, the nature is non sinusoidal so no flux linkage.this leaves us with simple v= i*r type situation(referring to basic equations).in transformers the winding resistance is low.if 220v dc is applied and resistance of winding is 0.5 then current i=220/.5 which is high value shorting the winding and eventually burning it out.
but why the hell apply dc to transformers in first place
