excitation is needed for the AC generator, it cannot be self
excited, so we need a dc supply to excite the field (pilot
exciter, field flashing etc.,), dc supply is given to the
slip rings of rotor through brushes. and then AVR (automatic
voltage regulator) also used to increase or decrease the
level of excitation given the field of the rotor,
