Meaning of Residue:
A small amount of something that remains after the main
part has gone or been taken or used.
Now coming to technical understanding:
Residual voltage is the voltage that is remaining in form
of induced emf i.e., magnetic field in the windings of
generator or motor which will help in producing voltage in
generators and back emf in motors.
Residual current is the current which the sum of currents
in all the phases flowing towards and away from the node
must be zero, if it is not so the value which remains is
called residue so residual current.
I1+I2+I3+IN=0
To detect the residual current in power system RCCB & ELCB
are used.
RCCB= RESIDUAL CURRENT CIRCUIT BREAKER
ELCB= EARTH LEAKAGE CIRCUIT BREAKER.
