what is the use of breather in transformer?

Answer Posted / raul

breather is basically to absorb d moisture content in atmospheric air entering d transformer which can deteriorate d oil properties i.e. insulating properties n can cause acidity n sludge formation in the tranformer oil. so when ever the transformer oil cools there is a contraction of oil in d transformer tank which draws atmospheric air into the conservator through a breather which is a cylindrical tank containing silica gel crystals impregnated wid cobalt chloride which r initially blue in colour n when dey absorb d moisture d colour turns into pink. when 1/3rd of the crystals appears pink, flushing of the complete charge is done n fresh crystals r introduced into d breather............
