why does not tester light up when it is touched to neutral of
3 pin socket.

I gave the wrong answer as the word 'not' escaped my
notice..The tester requires at least 40-60 volts to light
up depending upon the series resistor used.As neutral is at
almost zero potential from ground ,tester does not light up.
