Why power factor should not be in leading (capacitive) mode
of any load.
Answer Posted / nithi
if power factor is leading ,this will leads the following.
system voltage increases-more pressure on
insulation-equipment life reduces-insulation break down-
over heating-over fluxing-core saturation-noise in core-
core over heating-may lead to ferroresonance(when resistive
loss is small)this will further complicate the situation-
harmonic production-increased THD-harmonic resonance-
penalty from EB-malfunction of control equipments & switch
gears-if overall system p.f. is leading, result in ferranti
effect-loss of power system costly apparatus-increased
losses-reduction in overall efficiency.
but actually, this will not happen in the power
system due to the presence of varios controls like
FACTS,shunt reactor,series reactor,synchronous condenser..
