why we can shut down dischareged valve of centrifugal pump
while running?

In case of centrifugal pump the fluid is pressurized by the
centrifugal action of the impeller. There is a remarkable
gap in between the pump casting and the impeller so, if
discharge valve is closed the pressure starts building
inside the casting which increases the heat of the fluid.
So pressure is converted to heat energy. e.g we can easily
shout off the discharge valve of the centrifugal pump as it
is not a positive displacement pump.
