what is meant by velocity & gravity ?what is the difference
between normal liquid flow & gravity liquid flow ?

Answer Posted / m. ghailani

Velocity is defined as the distance per unit of time. for a
car driven from station A to station B, velocity (or
actually the average velocity) is equal to the distance
between stations A & B divided by time taken for this
journey. velocity is measured in units of length per unit
of time, for example m/s, or metre per second, km/h,
kilometers per hour. Gravity on the other hand is the
pulling force of an object to other object. For Earth
gravity it is equivalent to the weight of the object on
Earth.
In the science of water/ liquid conveyance, there are two
main ways for conveying water from one point to another.
First, is by closed pipes or conduits. The water in pipes
is will have some internal pressure and the energy (head)
that moves water is a combination of Velocity head (V^2/2g)
plus pressure head (p/water density) plus elevation head.
second, is by open channels (like in rivers), in which the
pressure is zero (atmosheric only) hence pressure head is
zero. the elevation head is the main contributor to
movement.
