what is the effect of leading power factor
Answer Posted / karthik_elec
simple, when ur load running in leading powerfactor the
amount of load current will reduce, because
p=root3*v*i*cos pi,
when cos pi increase, root3 voltages are same, so this will
not affect only the current, current automatically reduce,
thats y in indian electricity board concentrate the pf.
becuse it will increase the life of the load conductor, and
reduce the losses, you can see in some industry. in load
side they connect some capacitors for improving the power
factors, in india any industries reduce the pf upto 0.85
electricity will fine that company, if any company improve
the powerfactor above the 0.9 electricity will reduce the
bill amount certain persentage

i have a 4 Mva transformer 34.5 kv / 480-277 v and i used 2 parallel 3200 amp bus duct for the secondary feeder using 3 ply of bus bar ( 3/8" x 5" ) as a common where the flexible link terminated and 6300 amps breaker for the main, the lower bus duct reaches 70 degrees and the upper bus duct reaches 55 degrees when i used thermal scanner. why the temperature is not balance when the load reaches 3600 amps.
