how would you come to know if a transformer is double wound
or auto? note that there is no tag. you are given only a
multimeter.
Answer Posted / ogeerster
WEll in an autotransformer the primary and secondary windings are electrically connected. So if an open circuit takes place across the secondary winding, the primary voltage shows in the secondary winding. (test it for yourself)
While in a double wound transformer, the primary and secondary windings are not electrically connected, so if an open circuit across the secondary winding occurs, the secondary winding will not be affected.
I hope i have helped.
