does the power factor of an induction motor improve upon
used in parallel with a synchronous condenser , used
commonly to provide a leading kva ?
Answer Posted / rakesh
when a synchronous condenser is used in parallel with an
induction motor ( which normally operates at a low pf at
light loads) then the power supply to which an induction
motor is deriving its power from is relieved of providing
reactive power to im , while the im still draws the same
reactive power as before , the necessary kva is now
provided by the condenser as it exports reactive power.
hence the pf of im remains the same but the pf of the
combined system of im and sc is improved .
