What will happen if the interpoles in case of a generator
have opposite polarities to that behind it in the direction
of rotation ?
Answer Posted / rakesh
There will be delayed commutation , for the brushes are
still in interpolare axis , but due to the armatut=re
reaction the point of 0 flux density gets displaced in the
direction of rotation of the generator , hence the armature
coils after crossing the brushes wil still remain under the
polarities of the trailing poles , hence again a rotational
emf will be generated which again opposes the current
reversal in the commuted coil , thereby causing delayed
commutation , it is for this reason that the interpoles are
designed with the same polarites as the main oles behind it
in the direction of the rotation in case of generator , and
opposite is the case with a motor.
