if dc excitation is used to produce manetic flux in rotating
machines then ehy it is not used in transformers.
Answer Posted / shailesh tankni
in generators or alternators dc supply is provided to the
field along with the mechanical external force for rotating
the field winding. in this way stationary field is used to
produce rotating field which produces rotating flux and
excites the armature winding. so it works on the principle
of faraday's law of induction and provides excitation in the
armature winding.
but in transformer there is no moving part and hence if dc
supply is applied to it there will be no change in flux and
no excitation is produced in secondary winding.
