Yes it works ,I have even experimented by replacing neutral phase by earth point upon a failure of the neutral supply line.

If I want to lift the water at a height 50m from ground level through two inch(diameter) metal pipe then what is the capacity of motor pump is required? is it possible in single phase supply or not?
Actually I have a doubt on neutral and earth.we use Ac power without taking neutral by connecting to earth,but at that time does it affects on efficiency of any electrical components or no? If yes how?
