MOTOR:
When a current carrying conductor is placed inside a
magnetic field then it experiences a torque. This torque
causes rotor of motor to rotate. In case of motor, rotor
conductor carries a current which is in the vicinity of
magnetic field created by current flowing through stator
winding.hence rotor rotates.
TRANSFORMER:
In this case whole magnetic field is confined inside the
transformer core (Except leakage field). But current carrying
conductors (i.e. windings)are wrapped around the core.Thus
conductor is not in the vicinity of magnetic field and hence
no torque is developed. So due to absence of torque (Which is
compulsory for rotation),transformer does not rotate.
