In series motor the field and armature winding are in series connection.so when starting what ever the current drawn by the armature winding passes through field winding also.since current flow is not restricted in series circuit.so the amount of flux produced bu field and armature winding will be more enough to produce high torque.(because during starting current drawn by armature winding is high).
