Function of Gland?
To know it detailed, we must start it from a known theory.
Turbine is coupled with generator. Turbine has blades which
are connected to shafts, which are coupled with Generators.
Turbine has outer casings. As the Turbine blade rotates the
shaft also rotates. At the point where it comes out from the
casing, there must be gaps to ensure free rotation. If there
is a gap then there is much possibility of steam pressure
reduction and many disadvantages. So a part of steam is
taken through PRDS and this steam acts as a sealing
(covering) at both ends of the casings.
Function of Desuperheater?
Nothing but decreases the temperature of the steam. Consider
if our input in our boiler i.e. Coal feeding is higher at
some times than steam temperature increases more, so to
maintain a constant temperature, Desuperheaters are used
which decreases the temperature by spraying water in the
steam flowing inside it.
