how can we determine the quantity of steel bars in a
structure? is there any formula for determing the number of
bars required ?

to calculate the weight of steel in field, we use:
W = (d*d/162) kg/m
where d= dia of bar in mm
this is formula u can drive from Density = (weight/volume)
density of steel = 7850kg/m3
volume of bar (1 m length) = 3.14/4*d*d*1
