Explain the Term in CT Name Plate – Class: 5P10
Answer Posted / r. r. patange
In 5P10, P stands for protection, there are two main
classification of current transformer
1) Metering CT
2) Protection CT
so above mention CT can be use for protection purpose.
the first digit (5) stands composite error.
composite error - it nothing but the differance between
instanteneous RMS valuve of primary current and secondory
current, multiply by transformer ratio.
the last digit (10) is stand for the times of primary
current. It means this protection CT can capable of
measuring current of 10 times than its rated during fault
condition with error of 5% and without getting saturated.
