In single phase system, nothing will happen. If there is any
higher current flowing and any short circuit occurs neutral
fuse will blown off if it is weaker than fuse in phase and
hence electrical apparatus will not work.
But in 3 phase system, we should not provide fuse in neutral
link, why because, even if we divide the loads equally in
three phases, some time, some of the loads may be switched
off. At that time load will not be balanced. During that
time neutral fuse blows off if any reason, phase voltage
will be increased where the load is less compare to the
other phases which causes electrical apparatus in that phase
will burn.
