Usually we say that capacitors block dc and allow ac.
if a capacitior is connect in series with a resistance..
will current pass through the capacitior....
if i doesn't pass..is it due to offering of infinite
resistance by capacitor there by acting as a open....

Impedance of capacitor is given by 1/wC where w is the frequency of the source in the circuit..If we use DC as the source, then it has w=0 so resistance offered by Capacitance will be infinty which simply means an open circuit or full charged state...
There is one case...whenever capacitance get a path for flow of current ...it starts the mechanism of charging and discharging....When a C is connected in series with R and a V...it start charging....and finally get a steady state of full charged condition....But current is passing through the circuit till the time of full charged condition...
So if DC source is connected it doesn't mean that current will not flow in the circuit...current will flow ofcourse but it will flow only till the condition of full charge capCitance...After it get full charged...it will be open circuit and then we say that it blocks the flow of current...
Another case when we use AC as the source then..capacitance will have some resistive component with magnitude 1/wC...
So it will neither behave as open nor short in case we use an AC source...because AC source is not having constant magnitude....so capacitance is not getting chance to fully charged or fully discharged....so charge on capacitance will switch in this case...and current will flow in the circuit till t=infinty..
