what is the difference between ACTIVE POWER and REACTIVE
POWER.I WANT CLEAR ANSEWER.
Answer Posted / suseendran
The power required to run a pump using a motor is active or
real power(KW).
The inductive nature of the motor windings will impose a
power whose current flow direction will be, for one half
cycle it flows from supply to motor and in the next half
cycle it flows from motor to the supply. Hence it is called
circulating current. It just flow TO and FRO between the
supply point and the motor. The power of this circulating
current is called as reactive power(KVAR).
Also this is the reason why electricity board charge us for
KW power and not for KVAR power.

A 500 V shunt motor runs at its normal speed of 250rpm when the armature current is 200A. The resistance of the armature is 0.12 Ω. Calculate the speed when a resistance is inserted in the field reducing the shunt field to 80% of normal value and the armature current is 100A.
