In alternator generally we give DC voltage to field of
alternator but field (excitor)produce Ac & converts into DC
by rotating rectifier(RR ) then fed to rotor .my question
is why we cannot give dc voltage directly to rotor instead
of Excitor & RR ?

First-Voltage regulation of AC is easier than DC which is
controlled and regulared by Automatic Voltage Regulator.
Second-DC Power given to alternator for field excitation
having very high current, for feeding this type of supply
system size and cost of exciter becomes excessive high and
size of Automatic Voltage Regulator and its heat
dessipation will cost also that why it become in efficient
give dc voltage directly to rotor instead
of Excitor & RR ?
