what is the difference between neutral and earth????

Neutral completes the circuit.while in earth the body of
equipment is connented to earth so that during fault the
current can pass to ground saving life of equipment and
humanbeing.

In between UPS out going changer over switch and ups raising main input, both side cable gland producing heat but the cable doesn't get heat,Why?
