I am not sure about benchmark testing, but benchmarking is
nothing but, comparing how our product is working with the
products developed by competitors.
Best ex. mobile phone.
It is no need to buy a nokia phone of cost 15000/-, if we
get samsung phone with all features cost 5000/-.
Generally statistics(response time, throughput) from the
performance testing of the product are used for benchmark.
