what is the main use of ac and dc drives ? it is only used
for speed variation or for power saver also?

The controller is located within the drive itself,
communication delays are eliminated therefore improving
performance in automation and motion applications and
removing the need for external controllers, saving panel
space. Also Drives protects the motor from overcurrent and
other electrical hazards
